Regulations European Junior Cycling Tour Assen 2026 (version 8 June 2026)

IMPORTANT CHANGE is gearing for 2026. The maximum roll-out distances have changed compared to 2025. For the past years the maximum height of wheels including brake surface was 50mm. This still applies. Time penalties may be imposed on wheels between 51 and 60mm. Wheels of over 60mm are not allowed anymore. You won’t be able to start with these.

From this year it’s only allowed to block off the gears when you use mechanical shifting. If you use electronic shifting, you will have to use a cassette that is under or on the exact roll-out distance of your category when used in conjunction with the largest chain ring on your bike.

We aim to make racing financially accessible but also want fair play for everyone. Sadly, we have seen fraud with electronic shifting so blocking off will not be allowed anymore unless you remove cogs from the cassette or use tape to make cogs inaccessible. It has to be clearly visible to the commissaires and non-removable after the gear check/during the race.

Check gearing via the following links: Link 1, link 2, link 3. Use a tape measure to get an exact measurement. This video shows how we measure.

Gearing will be checked for every rider on certain race days, and random checks will happen on other days.

On Sunday before the race at 7.30pm there is a team managers/parents meeting where the head of the commissaires panel will be present for your questions. The organization is separate to the commissaires panel and therefore can not answer any related questions.
