Jeugdtour Assen remains incredibly popular
Registration for the 59th edition of the European Junior Cycling Tour Assen began exactly one week ago, on Monday 2 February. We are overwhelmed by the continued popularity of our cycling week in Drenthe, but we are also concerned. The youth categories 1 to 7 are completely booked up apart from a handful of places in category 2 and 7, and for the youngest in category 1 and the oldest in category 7, this is a first. The occupancy rate is now 95%. That is unprecedented. The occupancy rate for the U17, divided into three groups: boys-2010, boys-2011 and girls, varies between 40 and 60% at the moment.
The total number of participants is now 442 riders plus 22 riders on the various waiting lists for categories 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. This is the start list.
Waiting list
We are a little concerned about the low number of Dutch riders. Across all categories, there are only 90. The group of British riders is almost twice as large at the moment. In each category, we are keeping a few places exclusively available for Dutch riders until 1 April. After 1 April, the reserved places will be given to riders on the waiting list. Also start places of all nationalities that weren’t paid before 1 April go to these riders. This often opens up places. To apply for the waiting list please register as normal.
U17 girls
There is currently plenty of room to register in the U17 category. Boys born in 2010 and those riding in 2011 will ride their own races this year with their own classification. The girls will ride together in a group. We would particularly like to encourage U17 girls to come to Assen, as women’s cycling is developing rapidly. We would like to demonstrate this in Assen. We already have a strong selection from Spain, Canada and Italy and many individual riders, but there is room for many more, so tell your cycling friends about this week and show them what you can do!
30 countries
This year, there are already 30 nationalities on the list, which is exactly the same as in 2025. The five largest countries are Great Britain (162 riders, 14 of whom are currently on the waiting list), the Netherlands (90 riders), Germany (53 riders), Ireland (23 riders) and Spain (20 riders). The other countries are Hong Kong (16), Denmark (13), France (12), Italy (9), Luxembourg (9), UAE (7), Latvia (6), Switzerland (6), Norway (5), Mexico (4), South Africa (4), Sweden (4), Canada (3), Estonia (3), Australia (2), Belgium (2), Greece (2), Hungary (2), and individuals from Bolivia, Ukraine, Romania, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and the USA.
